Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Hartard is professor for Industrial Ecology at Trier University of Applied Sciences Environmental Campus Birkenfeld since november 2008.

Susanne Hartard working as an scientific assistant of the Section Industrial Material Cycles has longtime professional experience working at universities and engineering companies.

Susanne Hartard studied agriculture and ecological protection of the enviroment at Kassel University, where she focused on questions of waste management. The main focus after starting work was the guidance of a research projet "structural analysis of the SERO-System in the former East-Germany (DDR)". After that she developed the Research Network "Hessian Research Network for Waste Management".

Seven years of practical work in engineer companies of Thuringia followed, working at ERCOSPLAN GmbH (Erfurt), Steffen Ingenieurgesellschaft in Thüringen, working free-lance at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy, Department of Material Flows. She worked also for the Working group Environmental statistics (ARGUS) in Berlin and in order to organize the distance learning course "Water and Environment" at Bauhaus University Weimar. Many of these waste management project were done by order of the Thuringian Ministry of Environment and Economics and also for rural districts. Examples are a survey on the development of a Thuringian recycling management, an industrial waste register, waste management concepts, a waste data supply concept and an expert´s report on the transfer of the traditional waste management to a Material Flow Management in Austria.

Susanne Hartard graduated at Bauhaus University, professorship waste management (Prof. Bidlingmaier) in 1999 about the "efficiency of recycling organizations for waste management". After dissertation she worked in the Darmstadt Institute of Applied Ecology (Öko-Institut), Section Energy in a project to evaluate the economic and ecologic impacts of traditional and ecolocial built districts in comparison. In the following parental leave she worked part-time at Darmstadt University of Technology (Prof. Jager), Section Waste Management about a "Waste Management concept for motorway/road authorities.

Since 2002 Dr. Hartard is working as an Scientific Assistant at Darmstadt University of Technology Section Industrial Material Cycles. Her main research is the reproduction and evaluation of industrial material flows. Scientific methods will be worked out, who are useful to evaluate processes and parts of techniques in enterprises. It is the intention to get useful instruments for code of practice in enterprises, who allow an integrated documentation and evaluation of selected material flows. These instruments will be means of a integrated planning and controlling unit for selected material flows, in order to facilitate the enterprises to express the environmental impact and cost intensity of selected corporate activities.
